Guest guest
While shopping at Whole Foods today, I noticed that the bakery section was featuring a new offering: homemade marshmallows (with gelatin). I asked to speak to the manager, and explained to her exactly how worthwhile ($$$$ to the corporation) it would be for Whole Foods to consider making veggie marshmallows. Yes, I gave her a quick run-down on how there are no other alternatives, worldwide, webwide, whatever, and that there are thousands of vegetarian families who would put the word out in an instant if a national (U.S.) chain were to fill in this gap. I wrote it out for her, and she promised to follow up on it. Seems to me it wouldn't hurt if a few more vegetarian families, wherever you live, were to do the same at your local Whole Foods. They're already going to the trouble of making regular marshmallows, so why not fill an actual niche, right? Liz in Chicago

FWIW, any kosher grocery will carry vegetarian marshmallows. They aren't home-made and they aren't necessarily the greatest, but they work in s'mores 8-). Just check the label as there are one or two brands that use kosher gelatin from fish or kosher cattle. But there are definitely a few brands out there that use agar agar. Be well, Hadass in Winnipeg.
Guest guest
Not in the US Hadass. The last one that used agar-agar and distributed to the kosher places here was Emes. The only ones I have seen in quite a while are the fish gelatin ones. If you know a brand that is distributing in Canada, there seem to be quite a few people who would like to know. Guest guest
Hadass, All the kosher marshmallows here( Washington D.C. metro area) contain animal kosher gelatin. We have at least 5 kosher markets in this area. The only kosher marshmallow that I found was from Emmes and their plant burned down a while ago. Can you please let me know the brand that you use so that I can have the stores order them. Peace, Laura
Guest guest
Hadass -- the only veggie ones I know of for SURE are Emes, and their factory burned down. Sandra
