Guest guest
This might be off topic, but my vegan 28 mo. old son is going in for open heart surgery on July 18th. I want to get his immunity as strong as possible since the most likely complication would be infection. Anyone know of good immunity boosters? Foods, herbs, etc. Anything that might help with healing? Email offlist if you like. Thanks! Linda - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup. Guest guest
Nutritionally speaking, Vitamins C & E are your best antioxidants, zinc and Vitamin A are also effective -- all of which should be consumed regularly anyway. Also, make sure your son consumes sources of complete protein -- as a vegan, soy products are really the only ones -- both before and after the surgery (once he is able to ingest solid foods -- at first he won't be allowed to have anything by mouth -- just through IV, then they'll progress him to liquids, and then foods), as protein helps to promote wound healing by various mechanisms. Equally as important, make sure he consumes plenty of calories (maybe a little more than usual) from healthy sources -- lots of fruits and vegetables especially, to provide his body with the energy to fight off any potential infections and to help him heal in a timely manner. - Linda Evans Wednesday, June 19, 2002 10:15 AM Surgery This might be off topic, but my vegan 28 mo. old son is going in for open heart surgery on July 18th.
