I'm under a lot of stress right now, so I've been having dreadful nightmares

and trouble sleeping. Any suggestions for anyhing I can do, either to help

me sleep at night or to help me stay awake in the day? So far, I've had no

luck with rescue remedy, coffea cruda, valerian/hops/skullcap, or cups of

warm milk (dairy or otherwise).

A friend of mine who sells Mayawraps online has a coupon code to save $5, so

if anyone was trying to decide if they want one or not, now's a great time

to buy one. Email me privately if you're interested!

4 mg of melatonin in the morning for me seems to even out my sleep

patterns. I've been doing it for about 6 mos. Usually I'm asleep in

2-5 minutes. Once or twice a month, it might take 30-60 minutes. Good

luck.

Not much by way of advice, but lots of sympathy coming your way,

Sandra. I hope things improve for you.

Personally, I find conjugal relations to be the best soporific around

;-). Unless, of course, DH is responsible for the stress in the first

place ... good luck!

Thanks! You're not the first person to suggest melatonin. Unfortunately,

I've read that it's contraindicated with immune suppressed people :( So I

need to keep looking...

It's all a matter of priorities.

Aromatherapy might help...just make sure to buy good quality oils. Even if

it doesn't help you sleep, at least your place will smell great. :)Madeline

Lemon balm is supposed to be relaxing.

I no longer have the original post, so forgive me if I've remembered

incorrectly....

If the person who posted as " exhausted " is a nursing mother, have your

thyroid checked. Pregnancy does have a tendency to wreck havoc on the

hormonal system, and thyroid problems are known to hit a few months

*after* birth.

Oils that are reputed to reduce anxiety and/or tension are Roman Chamomile

(may cause recation in people with hay fever) which is good for insommnia

and relaxing muscles. Mix a few drops of oil (try 7) with 1 tsp of carrier

oil (grapeseed, apricot, sweet almond, etc. -in a pinch, I sometimes use

olive oil though I don't know what aromatherapists would say about this!)

and pour in bath before bed; Marjoram (do not use in pregnancy, use only in

low dosage, do not use with low blood pressure) which is very sedating and

often used in massage; Sandalwood which eases tension and anxiety and brings

comfort to those in difficult circumstances. Use in baths like Roman

Chamomile or in massage, or oil burner/diffuser.

Grapefruit is cheering, use it in a room spray. Or try bergamot in a room

diffuser (or a few drops in a pot of water on low on the stove). Lemon

(phototoxic and may irritate sensitive skin) and/or Basil (avoid during

pregnancy, do not use in bath, may irritate sensitive skin, use only in low

dosage) help clear the mind and are stimulating/refreshing.

This is total novice knowledge here so I really recommend that you check

with a certified aromatherapist. In my less than urban location there is a

great woman who chats with you and then gives you her recommendation for

free, the cost of the oils varies greatly. She also does a professional

consultation and follow-up for 40$. I'm sure there's an aromatherapist in

your area. If you don't see an aromatherapist, at least make sure you

research contraindications/side-effects of oils before using them. (I

included the most common cautions for each oil but I am not an expert! Also,

be careful with kids (and pets). Ingesting these oils can be fatal and they

don't always have child safety caps. I keep mine in a box my son has great

difficulty getting into on a shelf he can't reach...just to be safe. A

reputable brand of essential oils is Ashbury, imo, but there are others.

Some oils are not pure and some companies harvest their oils in a less than

environmentally responsible way and then sell the oil at a lower price, not

that I want to 'preach', but just so you know.

And, on a side note, yoga helps me. I haven't had the time or money to take

classes as I would like but I was given a 10$ video calld A.M. Yoga for

Beginners which is just a basic stretch video with some relaxation exercises

thrown in. I had a bad experience with a yoga video during my pregnancy

(hurt my back) so I never try videos anymore but this one is so basic, I'm

not worried about it. And, only 20 mins from start to finish which is about

all the time I have! There is a P.M. Yoga for Beginners video that might be

better for you but I haven't tried it.

HTH, :)Madeline

(I was the one who posted)

Oh absolutely. But if it's clearly a case of not sleeping enough, that's

probably not necessary.

Thanks anyway!

Sandra, who had a blissful 12 hour sleep on Monday night (interrupted to

nurse, of course, but STILL) and feels like a million bucks!

I have this video. It was recommended by a yoga instructor I was taking

classes with. It is very easy to follow and relaxing.
