Guest guest
Thanks Linda! I would never have known about it. I did write to them. Maybe one of us will make it to the Letters page! ~Doh > > By the way, did everyone see TIME mag's cover story on > vegetarianism? > http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101020715/story.html > We should all write to TIME and thank them for the > article. > > Linda
Guest guest
What was your opinion of this article? I read it hopefully...but ended up feeling like it was a little confusing more than anything as it brought up a lot of issues but didn't fully address them. Just wondering about what you thought, Melanie. > > Doh! [dohdriver] > Friday, July 12, 2002 12:25 AM > > Re: Time article > > > Thanks Linda! I would never have known about it. Guest guest
Melanie, Personally, I thought the article could have been more pro-veg, but I'll take it. It is nice that it wasn't anti-veg and if it leaves people at least thinking about it then I find that positive. Just the fact that this topic made it to TIME is very interesting on where the vegetarian movement is going. Just my opinion, Linda Autos - Get free new car price quotes http://autos. Guest guest
I was kind of disappointed in it. I thought they made vegans look especially unhealthy and sometimes just dumb. I'm not sure they had to find a vegan college girl with eating disorders who vomits regularly to talk about vegetarianism, YK? They made it sound like such a trend, and one being followed with no attention to health needs. Also, mentioning the couple whose child was taken away because of malnutrition. I've never even heard of such a thing and it sure can't be common, but it makes it look like it's life threatening and possibly abusive to raise your kids vegan. As someone pointed out, cod liver oil sure isn't vegan anyway. It's true we have to be more careful to make sure our kids get enough of everything, but generally we end up with kids who are eating much better than most. I had to go back to mommy duty before finishing it. I hope it ended on a more positive note. The start was very good. I loved the smoking analogy. ..... Okay, I just went and finished it and see that it didn't. No, I think they missed the point completely on just about every count! At least they're raising awareness that we're out there though. Maybe more restaurants will work to add vegetarian entrees to their menus and such if they see how high our numbers are. -- Alicia A Magical Childhood http://www.magicalchildhood.com " The best way to make children good is to make them happy. Guest guest
Well, I could quibble over some parts, but I was glad that the author didn't present vegetarians as loonies. She was working under constraints of space, so with that in mind I thought it was a nice intro, for folks who have no clue what veg*n means, or that the reasons can be so varied. There was a side bar about vegans, wasn't there? Or may it was in the body of the article. I remember that the vegan issue - what it means and why we go vegan - could have been dealt with a bit more clearly. But given that veg*ns are generally mentioned with cliches and cheap shots, I was glad that she covered the main points and then some (like, we aren't depriving ourselves!). ~Doh > " Melanie Mobbs " <mmobbs > RE: Time article > > What was your opinion of this article? Guest guest
Was the article more thorough in the print version than online? Maybe that accounts for some of the different ways we're viewing it. I only read the online article. I also tend to be doing crafts with my kids with one hand and get interrupted a lot while I read anything, so I may have missed some of the better parts. Or maybe I just have unrealistic expectations. -- Alicia A Magical Childhood http://www.magicalchildhood.com " The best way to make children good is to make them happy.
