Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the list. I'm adopting a child form China and will likely go in the next few months. I am wondering if anyone on the list knows a veggie friendly practice North of Boston ( I live on Cape Ann). I'd like someone who will aslo be open to my vaccination decisions. Thanks!! Bea Reardon PS I knew I needed this list and other veggie supports when a good friend who was visiitng with her children asked if we planned to raise our daughter vegetarian! My partner and I are a long time vegan and lacto vegetarian (leaning toward vegan), so the question took me by surprise.

People (especially family members) will be " concerned " about the ongoing health of your child. If there is any (actual or perceived) developmental delay, they will blame it on the " lack of nutrition " in your diet. Yet another reason why you need a supportive doctor, so that you can always use that as a trump card: " our doctor says everything is great " . Sorry, no knowledge of a north-of-Boston pediatrician for you. Liz

I mean, why *wouldn't* you raise your child with the same values you hold? But most of the time, the question doesn't seem to be critical or accusatory. (It probably helps that my son is a very big, exceedingly healthy boy -- it's hard to argue a vegan diet is harming him.) The people who ask it are just curious. In my experience, the question seems to arise most often from a failure of imagination. They just can't imagine what a vegan child would eat. So, I try to be tolerant and hold back the smart-ass comments I sometimes want to make and just answer their questions briefly and factually. It usually seems to do the trick. ---- Patricia Bullington-McGuire <patricia President, The Arlington Cooperative Organization The brilliant Cerebron, attacking the problem analytically, discovered three distinct kinds of dragon: the mythical, the chimerical, and the purely hypothetical. They were all, one might say, nonexistent, but each nonexisted in an entirely different way ... -- Stanislaw Lem, " Cyberiad "
