Sheri asked:

<<My daughter loves Yves luncheon deli slices, but I don't know what to

call them when I offer them to her. I don't want to call them " turkey " ,

" ham " , and " bologna " because I want her to know they're different from

real turkey, ham, and bologna.>>

We call them " veggie slices " . Recently, my oldest daughter has been

starting to refer to them as " soy meat " , but I don't like that as much.

I'd rather emphasize the veggie part.

What are the deli slices made of? For instance, if they have a soy/tofu base

what about " tofurkey " . I use that when I play " this little piggie " with my

baby:

this little piggie went to the health food store

this little piggie stayed home

this little piggie had tofurkey

this little piggie had none

and this little piggie....

We have the same dilemma. We call it " veggie meat " for lack of anything better

to call it, but I'd like to hear what others do.

That is cute! Our little piggie still goes to the market but the one that

eats has either broccoli or tofu.

Oh the little piggy! I always catch myself in midsentence, " and this little

piggy had roast-..... TOFU " - (and then I pause to give a short speech about meat

and continue from there). One of these days I'll remember to be more creative

from the outset! It's about time my little piggies started shopping at the

co-op.

Sonia,

I like that one. This is what we use...

This little piggie went to the sanctuary

This little piggie stayed home

This little piggie had organic produce

This little piggie had none

This little piggie went 'Go Vegan, Go Vegan, Go Vegan'

all the way home.

Parker loves it. :-)

I've always preferred artificial, simulated turkey-like product. Sometimes

we refer to them as felt pads. It's an odd family, but it's mine.

We usually use the brand or product names like Wham, Bocaburger, Griller,

Diced Chik, Fry Chik, Saucettes or TVP. When that isn't possible we say

daddy burgers, the kind dad makes, or veggie meat.

We said This Little Piggie according to tradition, but we're sad for the

pigs who went to market or who ate roast beef, and happy for the other pigs.

Poor piggies... I think kids really only like the wee wee wee part though.

  • 2 weeks later...

We just call them deli slices.

as for the little piggie rhyme we still used market ( we figure that's a pretty

general term)

as for what the piggies had ... we started out saying bananas as that's what my

dd liked to eat most when we started saying it but now both of my children just

shout out what ever food meets their fancy at the moment. they are not babies

anymore but they still like the rhyme and we some times have to repeat a

numeroues times so they can keep changing thew foods and where the piggies go,

ours go to the mall, the pool, visiting people and all kinds of other

places...lol
