Guest guest
Hey Alicia, The other day I went to our local store to get us some soy milk. Anji absolutely has to have it in her coffee....well me too. Anyway it was completely sold out with the exception of one very lonely looking chocolate one. This is a good sign. If anyone is looking for a good source of protein and is missing the consistency of meat, sosoya brand t.v.p. is awesome. Mind you it's so close as to be slightly unsettling. Guest guest
Hi Samantha, I purchased a soy milk machine this week also and am having FUN trying different types of milk. I have the SoyaJoy brand and so far have made soy milk, cashew milk, and brown rice milk. Today I want to try almond milk. Getting the flavors "just right" is tricky. I have found that my family likes a richer soy milk. . .so I made one batch. . .kept the milk in the container. . .and cleaned out the filter and then filled it with soaked soybeans again. Then processed it through to make a thicker milk. We liked it better. Then I added brown rice syrup and a touch of salt. It was good. . .but I liked it better when I added a bit of honey (if you don't use honey, try Florida Crystals or a bit more brown rice syrup). Chill and yum! I'm eager to hear what other recipes people contribute. If I find something I really like I'll post it. Let us all know what you develop, recipe wise. ><> LaDonna
Guest guest
A couple of years ago I read that some parents in school districts were considering suing the schools for discrimination to get them to change the milk policies. Since a large percentage of people of color are lactose intolerant and those kids can't drink milk, the fact that free lunch programs will only serve milk was viewed as unfair towards children of color. I never heard of it going anywhere but I thought it was an interesting angle. More and more people are starting the challenge the notion that our kids need buckets of milk a day and that it's the right choice for all children. I'd love to see schools change their policies to include healthy juices and soy milk as other healthy options. Thankfully, since we're homeschooling, we don't have to deal with this issue personally. -- Alicia A Magical Childhood http://www.magicalchildhood.com " The best way to make children good is to make them happy. Guest guest
Unsweetened soy milk is becoming more & more widely available -- just be sure to read labels carefully. I used to have to use cow's milk in recipes where a sweetened milk wasn't appropriate. Now I don't anymore! Yeah!
