Guest guest
Carmen, I've never had a colonoscopy myself, but most of my extended family has. I have a 25 year old cousin who is living with colon cancer and he said they put him under for his colonoscopy, but my dad and mom both went through a 'routine' colonoscopy while awake. Dad says it is uncomfortable, but sort of interesting since he was able to watch on the screen. So I guess it all depends on the circumstances, your doctor, and how nervous you are about the situation. People have colonoscopies every day and most of the time it turns out to be something very simple. At the same time I can understand your anxiety. I know it is hard, but try to relieve your anxiety somehow. Everyone is different so some of these suggestions might seem silly. Try what works for you: meditation, listening to music (I find that listening to music with earphones on is helpful to get through tough medical procedures), massage prior to or after the procedure, energy healing, a stiff drink (just joking), etc. Maybe take someone with you or plan something fun for yourself after the procedure to look forward to, etc. You are in my thoughts!
