Take the time to educate your children; they will want to understand the difference between a complete vegetarian (a vegan) and a lacto-ovo vegetarian (those who still consume animal products such as eggs or milk). Raising kids on wholesome food is easy as long as the parent understands their nutritional needs and keeps them in mind. Toddlers and preschoolers go through a period when they eat less because of slower growth and a desire for autonomy. It is important at this stage that parents be proactive about teaching their children good nutritional habits. Some tips for feeding toddlers and preschoolers: Offer choices of foods. Letting the child make some decisions can increase acceptance of foods. Make food fun. Try pancakes in different shapes, offer vegetables and dips. Set a good example. Let the child see you eating healthy foods. Involve the child in food preparation. Young toddlers can tear lettuce and stir batters. Keep mealtime a pleasant time. Do not force a child to eat or use food as a reward. ALWAYS IN A HURRY: Teens are the most prone of any of the childhood groups to be subject to nutritional deficits. They are always on the go; want to make all the decisions about what they eat themselves; and are very vocal about the causes they choose. Take time to discuss their dietary choices with them. Inform and then give them places to visit or individuals, such as dietitians or nutritionists, to call. Let them be active in their choices.
