Hi,

I'm new here.

What do your children eat at school? My daughter eats a vegetarian

diet at home, but she eats meat at school b/c I don't know what to

make for lunch. She doesn't like PB & J or veg burgers... she

likes " real food " but they won't let her use the microwave to warm

it up...

Thanks

Anna,

My son is 6 and has been going to public school for several yrs. We also

don't have a place to heat up food in the school. I've managed to find wide

mouth thermoses. I put soups, noodles with tofu or tempeh in that. Also we

send soy hot dogs. All sorts of beans with rice or millet or quinoa. Avacado

spread are great or chunks or avocado in a salad. My son is a big fan or raw

veggies and dip. Broccoli, carrots, green beans, pea pods, jimica. I've sent

pot stickers, and veggie egg rolls. Wraps are a great thing as well. You can

put raw or cooked foods and buy whole wheat, sun-dried tomato or spinach

wraps. His other favorite is nori rolls. The prep. is the hardest part of

that. We've even used corn grits in place or rice. The las thing is a cold

tofu salad or tempeh salad with soy mayo and veggies mixed in.

Peace,

Laura

You could make her a sandwich with Tofurkey, or some other fake meat. Will

she eat cold pizza or a cold bean burrito? My kids have developed a liking

for Veggie Subway sandwiches (during our kitchen remodel :) and I add

Tofurkey to those (we order with no cheese). So I was thinking you could buy

that type of bread and make a Subway-type sandwich for school. I do that

sometimes with hummus, Tofurkey, mustard, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber,

but mostly they get PB & J cuz I'm too tired in the morning to do anything

else!

Could you put things into a thermos for her? Soups and stews would

certainly work that way. I don't have that option because dd (6) won't eat

" mixed " foods. At least she's willing to eat soy yogurt or pb & j. When

it's a bit colder and I think she needs a warm lunch, I'm going to try pasta

in a thermos bottle for her.
