Guest guest
I agree...call around and find a doctor who respects your decisions. We're in the Champaign-Urbana Illinois area and I found a great ped that is totally respectful of non-vax (even with my son's congenital heart defect). He is also pro-veg, but none of that matters as much as the respect he shows to me, my husband, my dad (he's gone with me a couple times), and especially my son. He never once blinks an eye when I nurse ds (2.5) during visits...in fact he sometimes suggests it. He had 'A World of Babies' (a great book) on his desk our first appointment. He doesn't always agree with us, but he always takes time to explain things and doesn't ever talk down to us. He knows we don't like to give meds so he says 'you could give him x, but he'll probably get better without it' and admits most of the time ped suggest meds just to make the parents feel like they are doing something. On top of a great ped, I just found an incredible internal med doctor for myself!!!!! I decided since I'm almost 31 that I need more than an OB/GYN so I reluctantly found a doctor. He is great! I wore my PCRM 'Friends Don't Let Friends Eat Meat' shirt to the visit and he loved it! He asked for PCRM's website and said he wanted to join. His wife is veg and he so pro vegan I had to pinch myself. He actually called me the next day to ask me what I ate, what herbs I took, what exercise, etc. because he said he's never had a healthier client. He told me the results of my blood work and said my 130 total cholesterol was a great testament to my vegan lifestyle and that he'd never seen a total cholesterol that low without someone taking meds. He was practically hugging me when I left. He seemed so excited to see a healthy person. :-) I am starting to gain some faith back in the conventional medicine community. :-) Linda New DSL Internet Access from SBC & http://sbc. Guest guest
Congratulations on the great check up. " He seemed so excited to see a healthy person. :-) " LOL. I suspect it's pretty rare actually. My husband's doctor told him he had a patient who was extremely overweight and claimed to diet alot. Then he discovered that she drank 18!!! Cokes a day. He told her to drink one a day (figuring she wasn't going to give them up entirely), and she came back a few months later thrilled at how all the weight had just " dropped off. " Good grief.
