Guest guest
I am 6 weeks pregnant and my doctor informed me that I have a urinary tract infection and wants me to take antibiotics 3 times a day for 7 days. Has anyone else had this experience and know of any successful natural methods in treating this type of infection? Your help is greatly appreciated. Guest guest
i had a similar experience while pregnant with my son but my midwife wasn't supportive of anything other than antibiotics. I took 2 rounds (first didn't clear it up) while trying to find other remedies. I started taking cranberry tablets with rose hips and lots of water. Also, white cotton undies, no sugar, healthy foods, etc. I tried the Uva Ursi tea that many herbal books recommend but it made me ill (sick to my stomach-which I was anyway!). It finally cleared up and I don't know if it was the antibiotics or the natural remedies that did it. If I were in the same situation again, I'd try the natural stuff first. Guest guest
You can try drinking cranberry juice-the pure stuff not the cocktail. There's a lot of evidence that it helps treat UTIs by inhibiting the ability of the bacteria to hold on to the bladder wall. As for how much to drink, there is no consensus, I would suggest trying 4-6 oz, 3-4 times per day initially. Blueberries and yogurt (the kind with active cultures) are believed to help UTIs as well. And drink lots and lots of water to help flush out the bacteria as well. This might be enough to help you get over it if it's a mild case (i.e. you caught it early). If your infection gets worse though, you will need to use the antibiotics, or you could end up with a kidney infection-much nastier than a UTI! The easiest and most basic natural method for treating a UTI that I've ever heard of is drinking lots of cranberry juice. (A health care practitioner told me about this years ago.) Keep in mind, however, that it could take a lot longer for the infection to abate. Maria New DSL Internet Access from SBC &

My understanding is that cranberry is pretty effective fro treating UTI's . I have had minor ons in the past for which drinking lots of cranberry juice has " seemed " to clear them up. You could also eat lots of dried cranberries, or if you don't like the taste of cranberries there are also cranberry suppliments easily available. ( I've seen them usually in capsul or pill form made from cranberry extracts) Good luck. New DSL Internet Access from SBC &

If you have an extractor, you can use everything including the rind. If not, just omit the rind. You can go up to 40 oz. a day says my friend who is a naturpathic Dr. The Bach flower remedies of Mimulus, Aspen and Crabapple would be helpful. The only other thing I will pass along is that this area of your body is connected to the emotion of fear. So, you might want to think about anything that is causing you fear at this time.
