Hi - I did that with my first one, and it was really easy. Super Baby Food by

Ruth Yaron is a good book, although I think she makes the whole process more

complicated than it needs to be. You make batches and then freeze them in ice

cube trays so that you can defrost as much or as little as you need at a time.

Early foods that work well are sweet potatoes and avocados. They are both so

soft that a little mashing with a fork and perhaps some liquid (depending on

baby's age and how much thickness he/she can handle) is all you need.

Good luck.

First thing I would suggest is buying Ruth Yaron's Super Baby Food Book. That is

the best book I have ever purchased. There is also a babyfoodclub group on

groups that is pretty good. In general, once you know what foods are allergens

and how to space new foods, making your baby's food is extremely easy; just

steam, bake or leave raw and then grind in a food processor and store in ice

cube trays in teh freezer. Babies like interesting combinations of things. No

spices at first.

Hi there,

I bought a KidCo food mill on Ebay and ran a lot of stuff through that.

I've heard a LOT of people say that the Super Baby Food book is

" indispensible " - but I never found that I needed it or anything like

it, I just steamed some veggies and ran them through the mill, cooked

lentils and rice with veggies until everything was soft and ran that

through the mill - basically just whatever you're eating, if the baby is

old enough. My son loves the Amy's Mac and Cheese put through the mill

(takes some determination) - baby lentils and rice, " lasagna " with

cooked macaroni, cottage cheese, and a little tomato paste, baked apples

with a little bit of cinnamon.

Hope that helps.

I would just grind whole oats, barley, and other grains and cook them to

make cereals for my baby. I didn't add anything to these cereals other than

soy milk and he loved them. Also, I would puree cooked vegetables such as

sweet potatoes, green beans, spinach, butternut squash, and brocolli with no

seasonings added. I believe that because I did this, my 2 year old " begs "

for more greens and orange vegetables during his meals with no seasonings or

sweetners added still!!!

All you need is a steamer and a blender 8-). Cook veggies until mushy

and then blend them so there are no lumps to gag on. I used to freeze

the mush in ice cube trays and send the cubes to daycare in a Ziploc

baggie - by the time lunchtime came around they were thawed and the

daycare workers just warmed them up in the microwave.

I can also recommend Rose Eliott's " Vegetarian Mother and Baby Book " .

Lots of good recipes, although rather high in fat. Also, being

British, she uses peanuts and so on, and in North America most people

avoid giving them to babies and young children - for some reason there

are many more allergies around here. Maybe it is all the antibacterial

soap???

Maybe ... or maybe you are just lucky <grin>. I did this with both of

my boys, and they both started refusing the veggies as soon as they

learned how to push things away ... and they haven't touched them

since 8-(.
