Hi Irene,

I hope I'm good in explaining these concepts... anyway, cold foods can mean

either fridge cold, or the " yin " (as opposed to " yang " ) nature of the foods.

Foods are regarded as " yin " (cold), " Yang " (hot/heat inducing) or neutral.

Usually, one shd strike for a balance betw yin and yang foods, and this also

depends on the constitution of the person, or the state of health of the

person. But in general, one avoids too much " yin " foods, and definitely,

fridge cold foods are out. In fact, the Chinese only eat cold leftovers once

a year, during the day of Chingming, to remember the dead. It's very

difficult for us to eat cold foods, and it is regarded as an insult to your

guests if you serve them cold foods (we do have cold cucumber salads during

the summer, but that's to ward off the summer heat, and is balanced with

warm food, never just eating cold foods). Therefore, when I first visited

dh's family in Germany and they made me eat cold salads, cold meats, cold

fish, cold bread and cold cheese every evening, I felt rather ill-treated!

LOL! I was not used to it, and from then on, dh always requested that there

at least be a warm soup for me!

Anyways, so back to this cold foods concept, it's believed eating cold foods

cools the stomach and intestines, and causes malfunction, or " shocks " the

digestive system, and this in turn cld cause discomfort (stomachaches, etc)

or ailments.

I hope this explains what I said??

Thanks for the link, I will check this millmilk thing.

Cheers,

Janis

Wasn't it Thomas Jefferson who said something like: " Citizens who

read are patriots of the highest order " ? It seems that our right

wing friends are not patriots.

And now back to our scheduled programme...
