Guest guest
Thanks for the ingredient definitions. I think I can easily avoid vegan haggis! ~Doh
Guest guest
Believe it or not veg (not sure it was vegan) haggis is delicious. Friends wanted me to experience an authentic Scottish meal and it was so good I 'smuggled' 2 back on the plane. I think they use oats as the main replacement for the other 'stuff'.I served the haggis to a group of Americans and Canadians and even the die-hard meat eaters enjoyed... I've never found the veg version in North America though. >Doh! <dohdriver > > > RE: Ingredient translation >Tue, 05 Nov 2002 10:11:16 -0500 > >Thanks for the ingredient definitions. Guest guest
Actually, vegetarian haggis is pretty good (in relation to British cuisine in general). I know quite a few omnivores who purposely choose it over the original so as to continue the tradition without having to eat the " real " thing. It's basically just a vegetable/grain hash. Guest guest
For me, I was so repulsed by the idea of actual haggis that it took me a long time to get over it and give in to trying the can of vegetarian haggis my Scottish friend had given me. To my surprise (and chagrin) it was actually quite tasty. Still, I can't get past my disgust of real haggis.....I can appreciate the notion of a cultural delicacy and all, but yuck..... - E. R.
