Guest guest
I am furious. I can't even begin to tell you how upset I am right now and I have to tell some people who will probably agree!! I was at Kroger a few minutes ago. While shopping, I could hear the chatter of children. I got to the frozen section and there, sitting in a circle on the floor in front of the morgue (butcher area) was a group of some 20 children. The butcher was in the in the middle of them passing around a whole frozen fish saying, " isn't this a beaut? " I approached one of the adults and asked, " Is this a school field trip? " Proudly, with a big grin the woman answered, " Yes. It is. " I was shaking. I couldn't speak. I wanted to say " So are you also taking them to the slaughterhouse, intensive care unit, devastated rain forest, and shooting range? " All I could manage to say (for fear of really laying into her) was, " Oh My God. I can't believe this? " I was holding back the tears. I can't believe it! I am going to write a letter. She said they were from Boyd or Bollin elementary (the Allen, TX area). I'm new to the area so I don't know the schools out here. Would anybody care to join me in writing a few letters? One more reason to homeschool. Lucy
Guest guest
Unfortunately it's impossible to totally escape the meat eating culture since it remains the norm in our society (we can all hope this will change someday, but for now that's what we're faced with) I had an equally horrifying experience a few weeks ago. My five year old son brought home fundraising materials for WALLY PAR SAUSAGE from Beavers. There was a letter saying how excited they were to have this product for fundraising again, how successful it had been in the past, what a high quality product it was etc. Needless to say I was appalled that they are asking my innocent child to promote such a product, on top of all the ethical issues it's also one of the least healthy foods there is!! I am planning on writing to Scouts Canada to let them know what I think of this campaign. Even if you homeschool (we do too!!!) kids are still going to be exposed to this type of scenario somewhere.
