I haven't looked for them lately, but I know you could by vegan donuts

individually wrapped at the health food store years ago. They were very

good. I don't remember the name. Maybe someone else out there has more

info or else you can request info at your local health food store. By the

way are Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme at least vegetarian? What is in them

that has animal products?

Hi, I know this is not the most health-oriented question ever posed to the

group...but I was wondering if there are any vegan donuts? I know dunkin'

and krispy kreme are NOT... My kids (6, 8, 9) have never had a donut

(doughnut?...i don't even remember how to spell them...) they've been vegan

all their lives...but since sugar has crept into their lives, I thought

they could try donuts as long as they are animal free. Thanks, Jackie

There are in deed vegan donuts on the market. I don't think any of the

big-name brands are vegan. However, both Pangea <www.veganstore.com> and

Vegan Essentials <www.veganessentials.com> sell vegan donuts, although

Pangea appears to be out of stock at the moment. The soy yogurt glazed

VeganSweets donuts are my favorite. I get the at Whole Foods from time to

time.

Currently both are accepted, although technically " doughnut " was the

original spelling.

yes, pangea sells some good ones - your local co-op might be persuaded to

carry them. Ours does, and they sell well.

Pangea sells some that are pretty good.

But, it looks as if they're " temporarily unavailable " . Bummer. Here

are some more, but I've never had these. Search for " donut " .

Although I realize they hardly qualify to be in the same category as a Dunkin'

or Krispy Kreme, most health food stores will sell packaged vegan donuts.

Actually, there's a brand called Nutritious Creations whose donuts I am pretty

sure are vegan -- certainly their brownies are and they are quite yummy. I am

assuming you live in the NYC area on account of your Krispy Kreme reference and

I know stores here carry their products. In fact, the trend website, Daily

Candy, even highlighted them one day under the heading, " Looking for Mr.

Goodbar. " Since you are looking for treats for your children, the only catch is

that these products are low-cal.

Daily Candy wrote, " The Nutra Snack bars are wheat- and dairy-free, full of

fiber (as much as five grams!), and have only 150 calories (lab-tested, so

there's no scam there). Oh, and don't miss the almost Frisbee-size low-fat

chocolate-chip cookie. Sinful. Yet, um, not. "

The website offers a listing of stores that sell Nutritious Creations products

Mmmmmmmm, donuts.... (imagining Homer Simpson, drooling....)

There are. Nutrilicious makes some *scrumptious* soy-glazed donuts (my

favorite flavor, they make others). I order them from veganessentials.com

There are others, but the ones I've tried haven't been as good.

It's too big of a chain to make that assumption. We have them here in

Florida, and they're big in Georgia, too.

I dunno about Dunkin' Donuts, but I believe that Krispy Kreme donuts contain

eggs.

For those who are interested, Little Debbie donuts appear to be vegan.

Although, they are terribly unhealthy (lots of sugar and hydrogenated oils and

such.)

Little Debbie products were nearly the only commonly available vegetarian

snack foods for decades; their other brands made in the same factories, like

Sunbelt and Heartland, are heathier. They are made by Adventists.

What you saw is, I'm guessing, NutriLItious (not nutritious creations). I

wasn't crazy about the blueberry. the pumpkin were great.....

Doh! You are right...sorry. I double checked today.

I'm personally not a big donut fan, but these looked

somewhat 'healthy' if you want vitamin A and E

supplements in your donuts. :-)

You'll have to forgive the Krispy Kreme reference, New Yorkers tend to think

that everything starts here. A natural mistake.

The Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kremes are ovo-lactic veg. with the possible

exception of the " creme " fillings that might have gelatin, I'm not positive

about those. There are several Kosher Dunkin Donuts and at least one Kosher

Krispy Kreme that I know of in Manhattan.

We have a Krispy Kreme here (near Seattle), too. Not that I've had

one.

I think this is a local bakery, but Mighty-O donuts rock! They come

in many flavors, and are vegan and (I think) organic. We buy them at

the Seattle Whole Foods or at an area co-op chain that we frequent.

They also sell baker's dozen bags of miniatures at street fairs.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Sorry. Didn't mean to sound like such a NY snob. I truly had no idea they were a

chain that extended outside the NY area. I had never heard a mention of them

existing any place else. I stand corrected.
