Phil & all the donut folks... Everything you always wanted to know about Krispy

Kreme can be found at (what a surprise) www.krispykreme.com There are kosher

Krispy Kreme shops all over for Chanukah jelly doughnuts, even here in the San

Francisco area... but they are not vegan.

FYI:INGREDIENT INFORMATION (from www.krispykreme.com)

" The only animal byproducts used in our doughnut are eggs (whites and yolks) and

dairy products (including milk, butter, yogurt, whey, nonfat milk and nonfat

whey). Our doughnuts are cooked in 100% vegetable oil shortening (partially

hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil). All monoglycerides, diglycerides

and enzymes are vegetable based. The lecithin we use is soy based. We also use

wheat in our doughnuts, including bran, germ, gluten, starch and flour. Our

products may contain allergens. " " All of our doughnuts are ingredient Kosher.

To get a complete listing of our stores that have been Kosher certified please

call us at 1800 4KRISPY. " For vegans observing Chanukah: Last year I substituted

tofu for the eggs in Latkes. Works great. This year I added a little

applesauce to the batter as well & it gave them a nice flavor. Just throw the

potatoes (quartered... no need to peel), tofu (firm), onion, & matzo meal in a

food processor, stir in some applesauce & salt & pepper to taste... then fry in

hot olive oil. YUM! For interested Jews: JVeg- Happy

Chanukah!

Re: donuts

You'll have to forgive the Krispy Kreme reference, New Yorkers tend to think

that everything starts here. A natural mistake.

The Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kremes are ovo-lactic veg. with the possible

exception of the " creme " fillings that might have gelatin, I'm not positive

about those. There are several Kosher Dunkin Donuts and at least one Kosher

Krispy Kreme that I know of in Manhattan.
