I know so many people who turn their > car seats before the one year mark or 20 pounds. For the same reason that 80% of carseats are installed incorrectly - they don't know. (I was one of those parents who didn't know i had a seat installed badly until a friend showed me - since then I've learned, and I've fixed *all* my friends' carseats as they were all wrong, too!) Many people want to be able to see their baby, and may not know about the mirrors designed for this purpose. Many babies are NOT content to sit facing a boring seat, so in the interest of peace, parents put them forward- facing. It is definitely the safest way, and really should be done until the baby will no longer fit facing the seat - legs too long, even if the baby meets weight/development requirements. ~Doh
