First off, Congrats on beating the breast cancer! Turning veggie is the right move. Question, first, are you going vegetarian or vegan? There's a difference in the food choices I would share with you. Guest guest
> now that i would miss that is not vegan is organic cheese and salmon for my > omega's. Kath, There are many ways to get Omegas in food. Hemp products are wonderful. Sprinkle seeds on food. Or use oil in dressings. Also flax is helpful. Protein needs : look at the numerous beans that are out there. Hope that helps. Peace, Laura
Guest guest
Hi Kath, Sounds like you should go it slow and be vegetarian for a while until you get yourself and your family used to it. You can get your Omegas from flax seed. My husband puts flax in pancake batter and baked goods. You can sprinkle some on your cereal, too. We buy Hemp Waffles at Whole Foods that have a lot of Omega 3 in them. Veat makes a faux " salmon " that is wonderful and you should be able to get your salmon fix from that. In general, Veat products are wonderful although not vegan - there's egg whites in them. We have lots of veggie recipe books and adapt them to our needs. For veggie burgers we love either Harvest Burgers with 18g protein or Garden Burger Flame Grilled. But, there are a ton of veggie burgers on the market right now - you can try and see which ones you and your family likes. If your family likes rice, you can make a ton of rice dishes and add veggies, nuts etc. to them. Try making a spinach/artichoke risotto with walnuts. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? They have awesome food at good prices. They have wonderful spinach/tofu " eggrolls " and veggie potstickers. They just came out with soy nuggets that really taste like breaded chicken. Check around online for recipes and try things out. It's mainly a hit or miss until you get things everyone likes. If you'd like more feedback and advice, please feel free to email me privately. Good luck to you!
