I ask becoz yesterday >I saw an advert with shrimps and I feel like eating them, yikes!! Congratulations Janis!!!!:-) I had meat cravings with both pregnancies, but didn't cave to them. The worst for me with my first one was driving by Kentucky Fried Chicken everyday. It was such a smell from my childhood! With my second pregnancy I craved tuna alot. I ended up eating so much vegetarian sushi then that my older son loves it now! I think something in the Nori met my cravings. I also craved Liverwurst mayonnaise sandwiches (another food from my childhood). I used a veggie spread that was available in Norway where I was living and that settled it. Guest guest
I didn't have any with my daughter, but had them nonstop with my son. It wasn't until I found out that I was severely anemic that it made sense. I tried to deal with the anemia but in the last trimester, when I was essentially given a choice between eating meat and being risked out of a homebirth, I gave in. I'm not proud of it, but after trying for months to get rid of the anemia, it was the only thing that did the trick. Anyway, I'm pregnant again and THIS time, I'm going to be a lot more proactive to prevent the anemia in the first place in order to avoid that problem. Guest guest
I craved meat during both of my pregnancies. Specifically, I kept having dreams about totally grubbing on meat (raw meat eeeyuck!). I took it as a cue to boost my protein consumption and that made the dreams stop. Can't remember how many grams of protein I ate each day but my midwife gave me a great chart and I think it was something like 200 grams a day. Happy pregnancy! Guest guest
HOW did you manage to get 200g a day? I couldn't even do 75-100 unless I wanted to be living on protein powder or dairy, eggs & beans!!! Sandra > I craved meat during both of my pregnancies. Guest guest
Okay, I looked it up and the recommended amount was actually 90 grams a day. Just like you it wasn't easy to get that much but I did consume a lot of nuts, avocados and leafy greens. Most days my actual intake was 75 to 80 grams. Guest guest
Besides which, that is just way too much protein -- unless you are a body builder or an Olympic athlete. That's 800 calories worth of the daily intake (the ballpark 2000 kcal) from protein alone. Even for a pregnant woman, 200g far exceeds one's protein needs. - Sandra Mort Tuesday, January 07, 2003 9:50 AM Re: RE: Janis & meat cravings... HOW did you manage to get 200g a day?
