Guest guest
Hi Danielle, I'm new to this group and finally I have a suggestion that might be of use. Have you seen the Disney video " Melody Time? " When my son was 4, he watched it over and over. One of the cartoons in it is the story of Johnny Appleseed, who traveled the country without a gun. He made friends with the animals. The story says he was the first human that the animals had seen who didn't try to hunt them. The other stories are rather harmless musical tunes, some with moral lessons. One tune does have an overtly Christian message (in a tree that turns into a cross). We tried to raise my son, now 6, without toy guns. He also would use a stick or what-have-you as a gun, as an apparent outlet for his agressive energy. But our consistent disapproval seems to have influenced him more than anything. Keep up the good work! My son understands that animals are " our friends " , and he doesn't want to hurt them. Now my son is almost 4 years old, and likes to pretend to shoot. I don't allow him to have any toy guns, but he'll use anything, even a crayon and pretend it's a weapon making " bam " sounds. I know this is normal for a little boy, but do you know of any books or videos that teach why guns or violence is bad? I tell him I don't like guns and shooting hurts people. He says " I'm just pretending, Mom " , but I just don't like him pretending to shoot! Danielle Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
