Guest guest
I'll probably get blasted for posting this, but I wanted to make a couple suggestions. For those that intend to use the " For your friends that are dragging their heels " information, may I suggest that you clean it up so its not quite so " outrageous " sounding? People that are resisting an idea like vegetarianism are not going to be won over by some of the rather extreme sounding statements made in that posting. I'm not convinced that all of the information is 100% accurate (I'm double checking on it shortly), and even if it is, it is stated in such a way that it sounds extremist and to some it will sound absurd enough to turn them off of reading the entire thing. When you are trying to win someone over to an idea, the best bet is going to be to use points that they will relate to, and convince them that its really not that huge of a step to take. Second of all, most lists consider it common courtesy to delete the body of such long posts before responding to it. As it was this time around, we had the entire, very long message posted what, 4 or 5 times? A lot of folks don't have fast connections for their e-mail and to cut down on redundancies like that makes a big difference in downloading their e-mail. Guest guest
Hi Phil, I think it's cool that you put in your $0.02--all points of view should be welcome. I don't think your post is that far off from where our discussion led us. I think we agree that although it might make us squeamish to see our kids act out violent play, it is just play. Many of us probably played cops and robbers (or cowboys and Indians) when we were kids. And look how great (and healthy, compassionate, and/or earth-aware) we all turned out! It's good to enter into a discussion about things like this on a vegetarian-tolerant website. Out of the discussion, we did come up with some books, websites, and videos that reinforce gentle behavior and, along with the fantasy play, shape our children in a positive way. Kids pretend gun play is nothing to be concerned about, it isn't inherently bad and you probably can't stop it anyway .... Did I insult enough people yet? I can go on . . .
