Hello everyone! My hubby and I are trying to go total vegan - I'd say

we're about 85% there. I finally tossed out my jar of mayo but I'm so

sick of just ketchup and mustard! What other type of condiments would

ya'll recommend for yummy sandwiches? We love Yves and Lightlife veggie

deli slices but I need a new condiment (perhaps something even close to

the taste of mayo)? I've tried NAYONAISE (sp?) and hated it. Any

ideas? THANKS!!

Dear Lynne and Tony,

You can try Veganaise, not sure how close it is to nayonaise. I love a new

product called Miso Mayo. It's made by the So Good Food Co.. Needs to be in

the fridge. Comes in a plastic squeeze bottle. It has: canola oil, organic

miso, cider vinegar, tamari and onion as the ingredients. You can also use

tahini on sandwhiches!.

Good luck,

Peace,

Laura

If you live near a Trader Joe's, they carry a vegan mayo that is pretty

tasty. Hope that helps. Tracy

You don't say where you are from but it sounds like the USA.

Here in the UK we have Plamil Egg-Free Mayonnaise which is great. You can

buy it mailorder from http://www.veganstore.co.uk

How about whizzing up some soft tofu with a bit of your favourite oil,

salt, pepper, a hint of garlic and herbs... easy.

Try Veganaise. I've noticed that a lot of people who don't like Nayonaise

do like Veganaise, and vice versa. Also, in our house we often put

glaucamole on sandwiches. Hummus and tahini also work well, and for some

sandwiches relish may work, too.

Lynne and Tony,

My family really likes Vegenaise. It is totaly vegan and is grapeseed oil

based.( which I heard is supposed to be good for you). I feel it is a good

substitute for mayo and if popularity is any indication of it's taste, everyone

in the Co-op likes and uses it ( a group of approx ten families). The other

members of the co-op are not vegan, however, they do represent a group of people

where natural foods, good quality, healthier choices, and taste are very

important factors in food selection.

Veganaise is a great option. It is much better tasting and has a better

texture than Nayonaise.

VEGANAISSE!

puts regular mayonaise to shame! Comes made from 3 different oils your

choice. Found in the refrigerator section at the grocery store. I prefer the

grapeseed oil, but I have tried them all and love them.

My mom who is not vegetarian or vegan loves it too!

You might try making your own mayo. Or, we usually wrap our sandwich

fixings in a whole wheat tortilla and use hummus and sprinkle with a little

seasoned olive oil and vinegar in place of mayo.

I like vinegar & oil. You can experiment with different types to find a

combination you really like.

I believe there is a vegan mayonaise that contains no eggs - I think Hain makes

it. It probably is pretty high in fat but at least its vegan.

You can also try other things like humus or avocado (mushed or slices) in your

sandwiches. There's a vegan sour cream made by Soyco that is not so great by

itself, but a pretty good spread if you add some herbs to it. Beware of

Tofutti's " Beter than Cream cheese " as it contains hydrogenated oils.

Also, try the Vegan slices soycheese (Mozarella and American flavor) - when you

put it on warm bread it gets creamy.

Good luck!

with a walnut and roast red pepper spread, dont know the brand off

hand but there are a number of brands and different varieties of such

spreads. And some good pesto spreads too.

Veganaise!!! Tastes so much more like mayo, not salad dressing... also

hummus is good on sandwiches, vegan pesto, soy butter, tofu " sour cream " ,

mock feta cheese, olive oil, mashed avocado, or put the marinated artichoke

hearts in the sandwich without draining all of the way and they will moisten

the bread nicely. Enjoy!

Try Veganaise. It's kept in the refrigerated section. It's delicious!

Also, hummus makes a good mayo sub on sandwiches.

IMO, nayonnaise tastes just like Miracle Whip (never did like that stuff.) I

prefer the taste of the original vegenaise, although I've also tried the

grapeseed oil vegenaise, which is similar. Original vegenaise reminds me of the

Kraft mayo I grew up eating. You can find it in the refrigerated section of

your health food store.
