Guest guest
Sun, 16 Feb 2003 11:36:25 -0500 (US) PETA, Beef Council debate diet [from The Oklahoman] There aren't many things the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Oklahoma Beef Council will agree on, but the health of America's children is one of them, not that they don't have a few differences of opinion on how to get there. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, about 11 percent, or 4.7 million American children, are overweight. In response, many school-age children are making changes to their diets, including turning to both vegetarianism and veganism. A recent study from Teenage Research Unlimited says that 2 percent of teens ate no meat, poultry or fish in 2000 and that six percent of girls ate no beef or pork. Much credit for this is given to PETA, which urges children from elementary school and up to take up vegetarian or vegan diets on its Web sites -- www.VegKids. com and www.PETA2.com. full story: http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=987140 & pic=none & TP=getbusiness
