Guest guest
(UK) Should you raise children as vegetarians? Many parents who choose to raise their children as vegetarians may encounter negative pressure from friends and family, according to a survey carried out by the charity Animal Aid. The British Medical Association (BMA) acknowledged the possibility that vegetarianism may be a healthy option over decade ago. In 1986, a BMA report on nutrition and health stated that, 'Vegetarians have lower rates of obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, large bowel disorders, cancers, and gall stones.' The report also found that cholesterol levels tend to be lower in vegetarians and concluded that vegetarianism is a suitable diet for infants. However, despite the fact that health professionals recognise vegetarianism as being good for us, the Animal Aid survey found that more than half of vegetarians trying to raise their children as vegans or vegetarians encountered negative pressure from their relatives. full story: http://www.clinnix.net/news/article.php?id=2658
