Guest guest
I was checking on the internet for information on omega 3s and found this site www.omego-3info.com. Most of the information was nothing new to me except one thing that concerned me. It said that the type of omega 3s found in fish are long chain and those found in vegetable sources are short chain. It then said that some of the benefits of omega 3s are only through the long chain (ie: fish) and that the requirement on quantity needed is about 10x higher if you use the vegetable source. I felt like I was reading an ad for fishing companies the way they were pushing the fish sources. Anyone else know anything about this and if it is acurate? Guest guest
I have read this from a variety of sources also. I read one article that said that even vegetarians should include at least one serving of salmon or tuna each week. Of course, as you pointed out, you never know who is funding these " findings " . I continue to be skeptical regarding the info on omega-3s, etc. I don't think anything is conclusively *known*. The next generation is likely to learn that they are harmful ;-) I was wondering, as with calcium and protein, if the " needs " change when high levels of cholesterol aren't interfering. In other words, if the amount/type of omega-3s needed is reduced or different for a vegetarian or vegan because of absorption. Just a thought from left field :-). ~Marvelyn - " smartgirl27us " <thesmartfamily3 Thursday, March 06, 2003 2:21 PM OMEGA 3S > I was checking on the internet for information on omega 3s and found > this site www.omego-3info.com. Guest guest
I took the salmon omega 3's for depression after talking to a psychiatrist, the health food store employees and this list, and found that I experinced relief in 1-2 weeks. Everyone said that the vegetarian ones simply weren't as effective and given that it was a choice fo salmon or lithium, it seemed like the better choice.
