Guest guest
Hi Val and all, I am new to the list too, although I love vegetarianism I have not totally crossed over yet. Just had an experience in the hospital....when asking for a vegetarian meal, they actually sent someone up to me to ask what I meant and could I give them any ideas! Didn't even get the simple salad.....steamed carrots, mashed potatoes, white rice and canned applesauce! Didn't look appetizing nor taste so good. Later that night as a lady from church was bringing our family dinner, my daughter called and I begged them to send along some food to the hospital. Got that applesauce again, but this time it was a lovely chunky homemade sauce and a gorgeous salad. What relief! You have some great ideas for coping while in the hospital...........will definitely think of those if there is a next time in the hospital! Joyce > Veggie Val > PS. How about a thread on unhealthy hospital food?? Hospitals must be to blame for early deaths with the junk they feed you. Expectant vegetarians who may choose (or end up) in the hospital for your birth should make arrangements for your first meal as a mom ahead of time! Scope out nearby restaurants and their hours of operations! My only vegetarian options in the hospital were applesauce, iceberg lettuce, mashed potatoes, and mashed sweet potatoes. Completely inadequate after 12+ hours of hard labor (and they won't let you eat during that time)! If there is a next time, it will be a home birth for me! Guest guest
" How about a thread on unhealthy hospital food?? Hospitals must be to blame for early deaths with the junk they feed you. " My husband was in the hospital last week for a Cardiac Catheter. Following the procedure where they were looking for heart disease, they asked him if he was hungry. He was very hungry and requested a vegetarian meal. It took them forever to get one. First they brought a non-veg meal and then finally they delivered a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. I am not a doctor, but shouldn't you avoid cheese and fried foods if you have heart disease? This Denver area hospital definitely had a hard time with the veg request. I just laughed when they handed him his meal.
Guest guest
> > As far as I know marmite is South African.. but hey i could be wrong.. > My jar says Marmite is made in the UK - don't know what the origen of the recipe is/was. As for Vegemite, that's good too, but not so readily available in the shops here (sw Ontario). I'm sure marriages have broken up, let alone friendships, over whether Marmite or Vegemite was the better . . . . ;=) Best, Pat/Canada -- SANTBROWN townhounds/ http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet " - Gandhi * " The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men " - Leonardo da Vinci ----------
