Guest guest
Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Erin and I live in phoenix, az with my hubby and my 10 month old daughter. I guess i've always been a vegetarian for the most part but never really called myself that until now. A closet veggie if you will.... I always worried about people labeling me...I've never liked meat much but would get cravings for hamburgers once in a while. I just recently (two months ago) started limiting my dairy intake as well and found that it did some amazing things to my body. For one, i don't crave sweets anymore. I'm still trying to figure this one out because i love anything with sugar in it. but now, i've completely taken dairy out of my diet, but it's a little difficult because i'm still learning a lot about what is actually in the food we eat and how to make substitutions for it. i just know that i feel great. i also would like to know the best way to begin raising my daughter as a vegan?? it's really hard to explain to my hubby who hunts for fun and meat that this is really a healthier way for her to eat. she is still exclusively breast-fed with some (very little) solid food. she just doesn't seem interested yet. any thoughts on this to maybe help out a bit??? anyway, i look forward to learning all i can from everyone in this group. blessings to you all, erin (mommy to savannah faith, wife to todd)
Guest guest
Dear Erin, Does your husband support you in raising Savannah as a vegan? I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm a vegetarian and have raised my son as a vegetarian so far...however my husband has no interest in giving up animal products and doesn't really support me in raising our son vegetarian. I suggested we seek some counseling on this which we are scheduled to do next month. It has caused some friction in our marriage and is definitely something that you and Todd need to address. If he supports you, Praise God! Looking forward to sharing experiences with you and having someone who understands where I'm coming from! God's blessings to you too, Lori Todd Ockenfels [e.t.ockenfels] Monday, March 24, 2003 6:53 PM new to this way of life Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself. Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group as well. My name is Christine. I live in Nashville, TN. The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine (pcrm.org) has a good website with info about raising vegan children. They have info on food groups, what different age groups need nutritionally, sample menu's, etc. - Todd Ockenfels Monday, March 24, 2003 6:52 PM new to this way of life Hi all! Guest guest
Erin, I'm also new to all of this. Hubby and I have an 11 month old, and all three of us just became vegetarians three weeks ago. We made this decision for the sake of our baby, our health, and the animals. We aren't going vegan at this time. Nice to meet you!
