Welcome to all the new folks here, and congrats on making the decision to go

veg*n, especially with your children.

I'm not married but my boyfriend is, uh, omnivorous (huh). But he knows I'm

raising my son and any future child vegan, so the main problem is that it's

more expensive to make 2 different meals than one big one for all of us - in

fact, we eat out usually, which is even more expensive.... I don't know

what I'd do about a meat-eating (and hunting or cattle-ranching!!) husband.

That's gotta be hard. I know Vegetarian Baby and Child had an essay about

this maybe 1 year ago.

I wanted to address Erin's questions....

Not sure what you mean, the best way to do it. I guess you're asking about

how to make sure she's healthy? Start reading now about it. There are

books about raising vegan kids, as well as websites.

I'm sure. I don't envy you. Lead by example.

Wait until she is interested. No hurry. Keep up the wonderful

breastfeeding. Even if you introduce solids and she takes to them like a

fish to water, you'd still be breasfeeding just as often, so if you're

thinking you'd get a bit of a break in that department, I'd put that hope to

rest! :) Most kids continue to nurse as frequently until they're over a

year, or longer. Which is fine once you know that's what breastfeeding

involves. If, however, you're under the impression that your dd needs

solids for some other reason, just be patient. When she's ready, she'll let

you know.

Good luck.
