Guest guest
How do you manage to find people in your community who are vegetarian or vegan by the way? I haven't seen any vegetarian groups or meetings under community events in the local weeklies. I've met a few vegetarians/vegans through my homeschool co-op group, but I think that was by pure coincidence. Any suggestions? (I'm new by the way. Sorry for the lack of introduction!) Hi Amy and Christa, and welcome, It's hard to find folks from fliers and such. The ones I've met are just from coincidental meetings. I don't know why fliers aren't very effective; I always check for them and I'd probably call if I found one. But some people may intend to call but never do.... Anyway, try the websites www.veggiebaby.com and www.vegfamily.com - they both have a section to locate or list veggie playgroups. You can also try plugging " vegetarian playgroup [city] " into search engines. And Christa, for your daughter (how old?) you might find age-appropriate books and there are websites, too - the above two will help her feel less isolated, and veganstreet.com has a kids area, too, I think. HTH and welcome again, ~Doh ------- Loyalty to the country, always. Loyalty to the government, when deserved. ~Mark Twain.
Guest guest
Thanks for the input, Doh. My older daughter is 4 1/2. I have gotten her some books about vegetarian kids. The main problem seems to be that she goes to preschool & is the only vegetarian child in the entire school! I don't think that she was aware that she was in the minority until she started school. The teacher told me that she started crying one time b/c the other kids were eating meat. She doesn't understand why her friends don't feel the same way that she does. She asks me if her friends don't know that animals have feelings. I have told her that they probably don't think about meat being an animal, so she wants to explain it to all of them & " convert " them to vegi . I don't think that this would go over well with the other parents... Anyway, I have posted a playgroups listing on vegfamily.com, but hadn't checked out the other site that you mentioned, so I will check there, too. Thanks.
