Guest guest
Hi, I was just wondering what anyone thinks of Whole Foods Markets. We have a Trader Joe's near us (Philadelphia), which is about an hour away and I just found out there is a Whole Foods Market that way too. We were planning on going over Easter and I was just wondering if anyone thinks one is better than the other or if there is more variety or vegetarian foods at one than the other. Thanks! Guest guest
I haven't been to Whole Foods in years (they don't have any near me in Colorado), but when I used to live in the SF bay area, I shopped at the one in Berkeley. I thought that it was a really nice market. In comparison to Trader Joe's (which they also have in CA), I thought that Whole Foods had more vegan foods and was just larger anyway. I can't speak for the ones in your area, though. Christa

Angie, We live outside of D.C. We have both stores near us. Here are my thoughts. Trader Joe's has better prices on most things. But they rotate some stock. Many of their breads are vegan, but you need to read labels. The breads are pretty consistant. They do not carry organic produce though. Whole Foods does carry organic produce as well as conventional. Whole Foods does have a better selection of veg. foods. They have a deli and soup and salad bar; and T.J's does not. So, if you know what you want to buy I'd go to Trader Joe's first and see if they carry it. They do have vegan choc! Good luck, Laura
Guest guest
We had Trader Joe's when living in CA and have Whole Foods here in TX. I find Whole Foods to much larger with more variety and lower prices. We have at least four with more being added here is Houston and they make a strong showing. I don't know if they are this good everywhere. I would suppose it's dependent on the competition. Here, they've bought out most of their competitors. ~Marvelyn > Hi, I was just wondering what anyone thinks of Whole Foods Markets. Guest guest
We shop at Whole Foods Market (Fresh Fields) for everything. They have a nice bakery where you can get organic bake goods, some even sugarless but tasty. We also like their hummus and vegan foccacias. You should at least visit the store. The stores in the DC area are huge and very nice. - <Piggersmetea Saturday, April 12, 2003 6:35 PM Whole Foods Market > Hi, I was just wondering what anyone thinks of Whole Foods Markets. Guest guest
I have never been to Trader Joe's but I used to shop at Whole Foods when I lived in Chicago and also at the Austin TX location(which is also the first location) I have always had very much luck with finding good vegetarian foods there. I believe they have a good selection of meat replacement items as well. If you are ovo-lacto I would highly suggest the strawberry milk they sell, and banana milk, too! It is organic, from kindly treated, pastured cows, whole milk with puree of fruits and it is awesome!! Have fun!! Hi, I work at Whole Foods. I've shopped Trader Joe's before. TJ is more utilitarian and doesn't carry nearly the diversity of products that WFM has. I think price-wise they're similar. WFM has its own labels that are quite cheap, 365 and 365 Organics and a new line called Artisan or something like that. Other than the private labels, the prices are typical. WFM has a prepared-foods counter - always has several vegetarian options in the hot and cold lines, plus sandwiches and a salad bar. The Philly store may have other cool things like a full-size coffee/juice bar and brick oven.... Go see for yourself, and tell me what you think. ~Doh ---------- " I believe reality is a marvelous joke staged for my edification and amusement, and everybody is working very hard to make me happy. Guest guest
Hi Angie, I live in the Philly area and I prefer the Whole Foods. Trader Joes doesn't have much produce at all. However, I do like the vegan sesame seed burger buns at Trader Joes, which go great with veggie burgers. Whole Foods is MUCH larger than Trader Joes and has a huge selection of vegan/vegetarian items. I'd say they have more vegan/vegetarian items than non-veg items. Personally, I prefer to shop at Nature's Harvest in Willow Grove, PA. They are a small natural foods store that carries ONLY organic produce and if there is something you need that they don't already carry, they can order it for you. They also give a 10% discount to Club VEG members (a non-profit organization that my wife and I volunteer at). I prefer Nature's Harvest because they are a small business. It's located 3 stores down from the best vegetarian restaurant on the east coast, Horizon's Cafe'. http://www.horizonscafe.com -Scott , Piggersmetea@a... wrote: > Hi, I was just wondering what anyone thinks of Whole Foods Markets.
