Guest guest
WOW! You are my new hero, Gayle! 31 years vegan?! Quints that have been vegan since conception?!?! YOU ROCK! As the Interviews Editor of vegfamily.com, I'm dying to ask: can I interview you? 8-12 questions, by email? As a Floridian (against my will...), I'd like to ask: what part? I'm in Central Fla. (We can email privately about this if you like.) As a Floridian about to apply for assistance from DCF, I must ask: how did the investigations come about? Who initiated them? (Who tattled?) I was on assistance for over a year and no one in the agency found out about out diet, but I was always a bit worried, also because I don't vaccinate my son. Your comment to keep " official " medical records worries me, too, because I avoid Western doctors like the Plague. (Well, not exactly, but we haven't had an emergency that required a med dr yet, plus I have a Western Med Dr friend who sees us for minor complaints and prescriptions.) Regarding your questions about managing your dh's omnivorous habits, I don't have much to offer. I hear that most people work out some compromise - vegan in the home, eat what you want outside the home; no meat in front of the kids; the meat-eater must justify the diet, not the vegan.... Good luck. Regarding your opinion about the " vegan " parents in NY - You're right, it's not about the fact that they claimed to be vegan or that they/everyone is using the term vegan incorrectly, it's about how badly they parent. I'm not one to trust news reports, and I haven't seen pictures, but the reports are that the child was failing to thrive, wasting away - any parent who can't see their child's suffering when it's that extreme needs serious help, to say the least. I don't know if I would call it abuse and neglect or just stupidity, hopefully the courts will decide fairly. I hope the child can recover. Welcome to the list, SuperVeganMom!! ~Doh
Guest guest
Hi Doh, Where in central Florida are you? I am in the Tampa Bay area. Are you anywhere near that area? Guest guest
I am always worried too as I do not vaccinate and avoid western doctors. I have treated all ailments which have been minor with herbs. How old are your kid(s)? - Doh! Thursday, April 17, 2003 1:43 AM Quintuplets?!?! WOW! You are my new hero, Gayle! 31 years vegan?! Guest guest
No, I haven't but I once ran into a woman at the hfs (I'm finally getting a hang of these abbreviations-although I don't know what FWIW or ds means... who said she was a vegan from birth. I kick myself everyday because I didn't stop and sit her down to drain any and all information from her. She appeared to be in her early 40's and she was asking me my opinion on which veggie dogs are the best-which I think all of them suck except for the Boca sausages which are ridiculously good but at my last inspection-which was over a year ago-they conatined red 40. But anyway-sorry to get off track- I mentioned that none of them really came close when it came to the real taste of hot dogs but were a decent substitute. At which point she replied that it didn't matter because she doesn't know what a real frank tasted like. I thought WOW! I was so stunned that in my amazement I competely forgot to talk to her and just let her walk out of the store... - Doh!
