Guest guest
Hi All, I'm new here so I thought I had best set out my experience so that you can see where I'm coming from. I'm not sure how much of what I have to say might be relevant to Kundalini or OBEs or both so you'll have to forgive me if I post this jointly to the OBE Newsletter and Kundalini Awakening groups. Any follow-up might be posted on one or other rather than both. I have been interested in a spiritual outlook on life for decades now having first found an interest in the Zen writings of the likes of Watts, Suzuki and Humphries in my teens thirty years ago. I had only a dim understanding of these things then and it took the passage of the years and the discovery of the `Headlessness' writings of Douglas Harding a few years ago to make the breakthrough. (So That's It!!!! – so simple; why couldn't these people have said so in the first place!!?? Perhaps you have to be ready). Anyway, I'd like to tell you about some peculiar shifts in consciousness that started about four years ago. I didn't know what was happening then and didn't know how to tell anyone. I'd be lying in bed, it's mid morning and daylight (I go to bed late and get up late because I normally work late shifts!), I've partially woken up but don't need to get up for ages and so just doze. At some point I seem to see the room around me perfectly clearly and in full colour through my closed eyes. Other times it may be something else, like a scene on a sea shore say. I am conscious that there is a `me' a `scene' and a dualistic relationship between the two. At this point I usually just fall asleep but, rarely, something magical happens. I can only describe the experience as being akin to passing through a gateway that isn't there. Suddenly the relationship between me and the scene disappears, we become one, distance and time vanish and `I' vanish. This is accompanied by a feeling of quiet joy and peace. The experience seems to last for between half a second and half a minute, but it always ends the same way: my ego (as I feel it is) reaches out like a great hairy ape to grab the experience, possess it and examine it. This `pops' it like a bubble, but there is no feeling of passing back through the gateway. Either I then just awake with a feeling of annoyance with my `self' for poking its oar in again; other times, if the experience has been protracted, I may feel as though I slam into my body with a thud what would break the bed if it were physical. The experience cannot be controlled or summoned; either it happens or it doesn't. Another thing I've noticed is that when I pass through that `gate that isn't there' the focus of my awareness seems to shift. Normally when I imagine a scene I seem to envisage it behind my eyes, trying to look out through them, as I suppose we all do. But when I pass through the gate the focus seems to be from the centre of the back of my head and above eye level. The shift is quite pronounced. Eventually I posted something like the paragraph above on a Group. The possibility of an OBE wasn't mentioned by contributors (nor did it occur to me as I knew nothing of such things at the time, save as regards people in trauma situations) but rather the consensus was that it was some sort of Samadhi or spontaneous shamanic journeying. In was observed that chasing this sort of thing might not be entirely healthy, and perhaps I agree up to a point. The trouble with this psychic stuff is that it's all so shocking and unexpected that the unwary can feel `Hey, this is great – I'm becoming enlightened!' Perfectly understandable of course, and if people do take that view then it could become a stumbling block. But if you realise that enlightenment is nothing special, something completely ordinary and nothing to be gained – that it is simply THIS – then it is harder to sustain the objection. These experiences, like all experiences are not themselves enlightenment – they take place within it and are part of it. Anyway, this type of experience continued occasionally for a couple of years but seems since to have stopped. Another sort of experience arose a couple of years ago when people on the same discussion group were talking about a buzzing or roaring sound and visual changes that could occur during meditation. I joined in the discussion myself in a limited way although I didn't really know what was being talked about. Then something as surprising and spontaneous as the above incidents happened…. My wife had taken my step-son off to college in a hurry while I remained in bed. They had gone off in a rush because the lad had set his alarm clock wrong due to the change to Summer time and they had gone out late. After they had gone his alarm went off in the next room and I had to get up to turn it off. Returning to bed I lay on my back, started counting breaths and began to relax again. At some point I started to see this golden curtain of light (imagine the `rain of letters' in that Matrix film) and at its centre was a small but very bright white light, rather the way Venus looks when you see it after sunset. This was accompanied by a sound like gravel being poured in a heap, getting progressively louder. The experience came in waves and after about half a dozen of them some part of me heard my wife returning through the front door. There were a few more of these waves during which the noise became VERY loud before I came out of the experience. It was all completely new to me and I didn't know what it was but it put me in mind of the description of the first Pentecost: … `And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them as of tongues of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them.' Most astonishing, and all apparently brought on by the discussion on the group. Looking back now I suspect that what led to it was the fact that various people had their consciousness `tuned' in a certain direction and that this non-locally collapsed something that always exists in potentia into an actual experience. This leads me to think that the exploration of consciousness is something best conducted as a group activity; we re-inforce each other. After a lengthy gap this sort of thing has happened again several times over the last year, then not at all since this March. I can't summon the experience at will but have learned to calm down and developed a little basic control when it happens. A few times it has led to a full-blown OBE. Detaching doesn't always happen and it can be hard to `unstick' the head. I remember once experiencing the awareness of a spider (quite beautiful, a meditation) and have met one or two people, the significance of which I am not sure. By relaxing and concentrating in an unfocussed sort of way I have resolved a name once. Could these be guides of some kind? I have also noticed that my dream state has changed more or less permanently so that I now seem to occupy a world similar to this but subtly changed – what I call the `altered land'. I often wake with the feeling of having be taught something but I can't remember what. I'll sign off for now, but it would be interesting to know if anyone resonates with any of this. Regards, Mike
Guest guest
Mike, You are doing very well its just the analysis of the experience that you may want to turn down, allowing the experience to unfold as a beautiful present. If you practiced the meditations of the Zen or the other techniques you mention, you have begun a process of assimilating higher frequencies and therefore opening to more experience....perhaps of the Kundalini and certainly of the OOBE. I have had the seeing through the eyelids experience I thought it was great! I also was able to see through the clothing over my face and through the roof of the car etc. I would ask for clarity from your guidance. They are there have no doubts, unless that would cause you fear, if so then enjoy these fabulous experiences and realize that this is real! It is part of the true reality, that which we partake of between bodies -

Guest guest
Hi Bruce, The pleasure is mine. The closet was friendly though! as Kundalini is not kids stuff. I have experienced its wrath before when my system was not yet prepared and I didnt want to get stung the second time. You have to peep out and observe the workings first before... is a great teacher and you all great folks so out I popped.
