Guest guest Posted January 12, 2000 Report Share Posted January 12, 2000 * Exported from MasterCook * Savory Baked Beans Recipe By :Carol Ann Rinzler - The Healing Power of Soy Serving Size : 16 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 2 pounds whole dried soybeans 6 cups water 3/4 cup dark molasses cup packed brown sugar 1 tablespoon dry mustard 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon pepper (black or white, ground) 1 large onion -- chopped 3 cloves garlic -- minced 2 bay leaves 1/2 teaspoon cloves (whole) Soak and precook the whole dried soybeans. Preheat the oven to 300F. Combine all of the ingredients in a large, covered, ovenproof bean pot or casserole and bake for 7 to 8 hours. Check them periodically and add more water, as needed, to prevent the beans from burning. The beans are done when tender.
