Guest guest
Following up on what Sally said about HTML, A few months back someone wrote to me asking why I was putting a strike-through through the text of my email? Naturally, this wasn't a choice I was making, <eyes rolling> but it seemd a few AOL people were receiving my e-mail this way. What I've discovered (Thanks MC & XML!) is that a common emoticon for a smile, <s> is also the first tag in a strike-through command! So if your AOL settings are to receive (and probably send) your email in HTML (do you get those " pretty pictures " , use stationery, etc?) the AOL software will convert the text following that emoticon into text that has a line through it. If you forward one of these emails on to someone, in particular the brain surgeons called Tech Support at AOL, you'll get form letters, but worse, no one receiving in HTML PROPERLY, or plain text, is going to see it!! So they, like me, think you're nuts. Of course, if I thought to put the ending tag on, (perhaps indicating that I'm no longer smiling?) the strike through would end. Just in case someone's reading this this way, let's try it! </s> Did the strike through end!? <LOL> So when you're dealing with old-timers like me -- people who've been online more than 2 or 3 years, actually -- turn off the HTML when you write/receive lists. We tend to use emoticons of that nature and it'll mux you up. Thought I'd share! Christine Sarah Flemming Wednesday, February 09, 2000 06:16 AM Eureka! For the gal using Outlook 98, try a line length of 75. That will fill most e-mail windows and limit the broken line look. Also set your send to be text not RTF or HTML, that will also help with the export problems. I know pretty backgrounds and stuff are fun, I love 'em too but they make a mess with most everyone else's email . Sarah E.
