Guest guest
I want to thank soo many people for your great stocking suggestions! I really appreciate the thoughts. Bags of veggies seem to be the winners, also dividing things into portions for easier use. (Being a tupperware queen, I have done this for years. There's no other way to go!!) I have a tip, too, I've learned about getting that awful smell out of the freezer... I learned from a woman at work, that if you put dried rosemary in tinfoil, set it on fire and close it in the freezer it takes all the smell of the rotten food. Now, Marilyn wrote that she covered the inside with toothpaste after her awful experience. I'd never have thought of that. <G> What a mess to clean up!! Anyway, Thanks for all your help! Guest guest
You ate and ENJOYED barley!! Great!! Good for you. I admit, I'm not as adventuresome with the beans. <sigh> They're just sooo hard to do for me. That darned texture. I'm going to try some different pates or hummus recipes, though, and I'm going to try them with beans other than garbanzo beans. I figure there is a way I can force this to happen!! I already have my beautiful grains lined up on the bottom row of this gorgeous new freezer. I go through them pretty quickly. Last night I made a whopping huge batch of vegetable soup, added 1/3c barley and 1/3 cup brown rice. Gave it just a little body. Mmmmm. (In our enthusiasm for our new refrigerator, we turned it down too far and it froze most of my produce not in the crisper. Oh well!! Soup!!) Have you tried wheat berries? They're a little firmer, and I think you might like them. I did a great salad with a bit of olive oil, honey, ginger, sweet red and green pepper, a tad bit of onion and wheat berries. It was amazing. I was trying to copy a Sutton Place Gourmet salad. Thanks for the coffee tips. I might just stick some in the new one to keep that freezer smell at bay! Great to hear from you.
