Dear Detective -

> ARE YOU SURE DOC??? ;-) Does that really do it? Are you positive it's that

> simple?

Oops!. . . Actually, smack me over the head. . . I did it again!!! Next

time I'll read the little print on Narashima's program which says that it's

calculating the ayanamsha from Lahiri only, (not Raman!). So even when I DID

click on Rama's ayanamsha and made the 25 minute difference, it clicked BACK

to Lahiri. SO. . . With THIS program, in order to get it to match the

others, we have to take the difference from Lahiri, not Raman, which is 1

degree, 1 minute, 40 sec. and click on the subtract. THIS should do it. . . .

( GULP! ). . . . Well, it works for me anyway. . . but that's not saying much.

Try it that way. In the meantime, I have the addendum that Peter sent me.

I'll forward it to the list. This will help program the ayanamsa in both

Goravani's and Parashara's. Since you have Goravani, you'll probably be

happier with that one anyway.

Sorry about this, Detective. It SHOULD work now. . . Let me know, OK? ;))

Addendum

It is very simple to adjust the settings of Goravani’s Jyotish to do the

calculations for the ayanamsa suggested by Krushna so that the program

calculates the correct ayanamsa automatically. In Parasara’s Light2000 the

modification is nothing like as simple and in fact you cannot tell how close

you are as PL does not give you the actual ayanamsa it uses anywhere in the

program and you can only estimate how close you are by the degrees of the

Lagna..

GORAVANI’S LIGHT

Start GJ and go into the Main Chart window. This is the one which has the

default chart showing and the various buttons there for you to call up

whatever you want. Along the top are Five drop down menus.

Click on th e3rd which is labeled " Prefs "

Next to the bottom choose the option labeled " Ayanamsa Prefs "

This will bring up the Ayanamsa Preference box. On the left hand side there

are 7 different ayanamsa choices the Last one being " User Defined "

This is where we will enter the Krushna ayanamsa.

In " User Defined " you will find and empty box at the left hand side.

Enter in this box 24 Feb 366 in whatever date format you have set for the

program. ( In my program I enter it as 24/2/366. In the USA format it would

be 2/24/366)

Below this box there are 2 white circles click on the top one which is

labeled " Straight Line Only " a dot should appear.

NOTE Do not click on the lower circle as this is if the formula is not a

straight line and could cause errors.

This is just about it so now click on the OK on the left hand side of the big

box which will close the Ayanamsa Preferences Box

One more step

You should still be on the Main Chart Window. In the chart section of that

Window there are a group of 8 buttons which are used to " Print, Color, Calc "

etcetera. Click on the " Prefs " button. This will bring up the main

preferences window. In the centre top of that window are the Ayanamsa

choices. To use Krushna’s ayanamsa click a dot into the " My Own (User

Preference) circle and a dot should appear. Click " OK " and you should go back

to the " Main Chart Window " . You are now set up to use Krushna’s ayanamsa. If

you want to convert any existing chart to krushna’s ayanamsa just call up the

chart and click on " calc " . If you create a new chart it will automatically

calculate it using the new ayanamsa. If you want to go back to the Lahiri

ayanamsa (or any other) just go back to the " main preferences window and

click onto the ayanamsa you wish to use.

Parasara’s Light 2000

PL is not as easy to reset the ayanamsa. In the first place I have been

unable to find anywhere in the program where it actually tells you what

ayanamsa (in figures) it is using. The only way I could use was to do the

adjustment so that the Lagna is the same as with GL using Krushna’s ayanamsa.

I assume it must at least be pretty close to get the same lagna. Nowhere does

it print out what the actual ayanamsa is. At least I have not found it – if

anyone can find it please let me know.

Also PL does not have a user defined ayanamsa which of course makes it doubly

difficult. What it does have is an offset to the ayanamsa, ahd this is what I

used.

Method

Call up any chart on the screen and click the Drop Down Menu called " Options "

Click on the 7th option down which is " Calculation Options "

On the left of the " Options Box " are the various ayanamsas which can be

chosen. At the bottom is a small box labeled " Specify Offset "

In this box type " – 00:25:00 " and don’t forget the minus sign before it.

Click a dot into the circle opposite " Raman "

Click the " OK " at the bottom of the options box.

This will take you back to the chart you started with but it will already

have been recalculated with the new ayanamsa and offset.

The main problem with this program is that if you wish to go back to another

ayanamsa (say Lahiri) then you will not only have to click on the circle

against " Lahiri " but you will also have to remove the " offset " at the bottom.

You will also need to put the offset back if you then want to do any charts

using Krushna’s ayanamsa.

That’s it neither of them are difficult to do and once you have done it you

will find it very easy. I think that the PL ayanamsa must be the same as

Krushna’s but I have no proof except the degree of the lagna.
