Guest guest
Maharshi said that " the effort to acquire occult powers " is a distraction and hindrance on the path of liberation which involves total and utter destruction of the individual ego(doership). After realization a jnani may or not exhibit occult powers.
Guest guest
Dear Bob, You are right, of course. The great sage among sages, the Sage of Arunachala, has said that Self-Realization is the only Siddhi worth having. All other siddhis are ephemeral and bound in time and space. Such siddhis are based on the assumption that there are "others" who can be impressed by such shows. But Advaita questions the very assumption of the "other". The ancient sages have said, "Know That by which all else becomes known or is known". Therefore in Advaita Vedanta and in the teaching of Bhagavan Sri Ramana the focus in on Knowing That and not on knowing secondary things which are illuminated by That. "If you have not known the Self, what have you really known. If you have known the Self, what else is there to know." "Only where there seems to be duality, there one sees another, one feels another's perfume, one tastes another, one speaks to another, one listens to another, one touches another and one knows another. But in the ocean of Spirit the seer is alone beholding his own immensity." Namaste and love to all Harsha stockscience wrote: Maharshi said that "the effort to acquire occult powers" is a distraction and hindrance on the path of liberation which involves total and utter destruction of the individual ego(doership).
