Been very busy lately and thought I'd share a clip

of my half wild cat (half African Serval cat/ half domestic)

with ya all.

This is him trying to go outside at around 8 months old.

These types of hybrid cats grow for 3 years so his

body will eventually grow to match his *Heart*.

:)

His name is Obi (which means 'Heart' in a Nigerian dialect

known as 'Ibo')

Yep, for you dyslexics out there 'Obi' is 'Ibo'

spelled backward.

:)

Thanx. I get that all the time when I walk him.

He is really a beautiful animal, inside & out.

He constantly challenges the best & worst in me.

How did he get me? :)

I originally wanted to get an African Serval cat

(ok three)

but they are illegal to own in many US states.

Sadly mine. :(

But amazingly, there is a domestic breed of cat

called the " Savannah " .

It's a cross-breed of cat based off the African Serval cat,

crossed with domestic cats.

(Google keyword 'Serval' on either 'images' or 'video'

to get a glimpse into how amazing these cats are)

Here's a few, favorite clips of Servals

well-kept & loved in family settings:

Don't be fooled though!

Most people are incapable of keeping these beautiful cats

as pets.

They are very high-maintenance; require outside enclosures

and DO NOT use litter boxes!

Anyways... I got 'Obi' as a 'compromise' from a 'Savannah' breeder

in Indiana.

Obi's father was an African Serval cat & his mom is a domestic cat.

(half Egyptian Mau / half Bengal)

He's quite the wild child.

He very much pisses me off and steals my Heart in the very same Moment.

High percentage Savannahs are not for everyone.

They are a challenge.

Most people who are attracted to the Savannah breed

acquire lower (Serval) percentage cats

(25% and lower)

who are hence more domesticated, yet still maintain

a good degree of the African Serval look & personality.

Servals are the most comical of cats,

big or small.

They are very dog-like in their disposition.

> what is the adult's size?

Tough to say.

Depends on the generation (or percent of Serval blood generally)

Even then, there is wide variation still, in the development of the

Savannah breed.

The heaviest Savannah to date was 40 lbs but that is unusual.

For 1st generation Savannahs (like my guy) 20 - 22 lbs is a

good average estimate.

But since they are very long & tall they often look much heavier

than what they are.
