Guest guest
Dear Venugopal, You are right of course. We are bombarded by messages from all over the media. It will be especially intense in the political season. What stands out is the condition of suffering of human beings. How does one live in the conditions of suffering is one of the central questions for all deep thinking human beings? This can be reflected upon at various levels. We are suffering. Media is not making us suffer. We are not separate from the media. The media folks are suffering too. They probably go home and cry their eyes out every night. Next day, they have to come in with their suit and ties and dresses and report the same old bad stuff with a smile on their face. It's a way to make a buck. But suffering is the underlying human condition. There are no exceptions. The Guru who tells you to turn off the media because the media is manipulating you is also engaging in a subtle form of brainwashing. Possibly, for the time being, it is a good brainwashing and gives you some rest. Perhaps who we choose to be manipulated by (Guru, Media, Mom, whoever,) is not up to us. It is good to turn the TV off and go for a walk. To help someone is good. To be someone's friend is good. There are many good things to do. In the middle of suffering all these are possible somehow. Bhagavad-Gita states that the wise see action in inaction and inaction in action. Namaste and love to all Harsha , Venugopal AK <akvenugopal wrote: > > Dear David, > I once attended a ten day Yoga course. The Guru says " Stop reading news papers, books and magazines for ten days. Don't listen to radio or TV. I will explain at the end of the course the reason why I am giving this instruction " . At the end he explained : " All the media are trying to manipulate your emotions. whether it is a news item or a TV show, the aim is to manipulate you. You can realise this by abstaining for some time from all media exposure. Once you know this truth, the hold of the media on you is lessened. You do not react intensely any more " . Good advise. Practical advise. > Regards > Venugopal
Guest guest
Dear Venugopal, formerly, when I went to a Zen-course/sesshin, it was indeed required not to read newspapers or see tv during the course - though it was just very simple no tv or newspaper etc. in reach. This I felt indeed very helpful. Afterwards there was a more ciritical look what to read and see at tv and how much. The mind is indeed at times much distructed by unneeded or too much consume. The media also are not always representing just the truth - but I would not go so far saying, they are just manipulating. Hmmmm ... what is not manipulating you in this world? Everything, even your friends, your family, your boss, this Guru does also! No way out!! So - what to do? Ask yourself " who is manipulated? " ... This leads to the quest: " Who am I? " A way out?? Perhaps one can try this? Btw: Ramana always read the newspaper and at times there was discussions on the content in the hall. love Gabriele > , Venugopal AK <akvenugopal@> > wrote: > > > > Dear David, > > I once attended a ten day Yoga course.
