Guest guest
Dear Group, We have made the trip safely. It is Friday AM here, we arrived Thursday at Midday. For the next two weeks we are staying in a room at a friends house. We will take possession of our house about Dec 4th. Yesteday we had a chance to experience both the old and new in India. Our friend, Satya, is building a new guest house. We attended a puja to bless the construction. This was at the building site. They used a shovel, cleared a patch of ground, and then build an altar (using bricks that will be in the construction). the also dug a circular hole, and created a lingam out of direct in the center of the hole. they filled the hole with water, and in the center, the lingam rose, looking like the sacred mountain, Arunachala. One the altar they placed the building plans, an uncashed check that funds the building, banannas, flowers, etc. They puja was to Ganesh, the remover of obstacles (appropriate for a building project). A city official was there, as well as the preson whose construction complany will build the building. Kumkum (a red powder) was sprinkled an everything, and used to decorate the Ganesh statue. Incence was burnt, Camphor was light, and offered to Ganesh. Camphor was also placed in the water around the lingam, and made to circumnavigate the lingam. The site was green, beautiful, peaceful, etc. they had planted coconut palms around the perimetor of the lot, but goats ate all the young trees. Here was a ritual as old as India. And in the background, the cell phones of various attendees continue to ring. The old and the new. Today is a new day. We will see what it brings. Not two, Richard
Guest guest
Dear Richard, I am very glad to know that you reached here safely. Welcome and wishing a pleasent experience of India. You wrote about the new and old India. Here is a snippet. The ISRO -Indian Space Research Organisation - is a very advanced research center. Before launching their first PSLV -Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle- Shri Kasturi Rangan, then chief of ISRO went to to the Tirupati Temple and submitted a model of the PSLV made out of silver. Incidently, it is worth visiting the Shri Balaji Temple at tirupati. Which is only few hours journey from Tiruvannamalai. In India pilgrimage is one of the recommended procedure for "Moksha" or "Liberation". "Enlightenment" is only a bye-product of "Moksha".
