Guest guest
Hi Laura - I spent a year in Paris as a vegetarian, and it was indeed difficult - and I'm lacto-ovo, not even vegan! My advice is to look for non-french restaurants. There are quite a few great Morroccan restaurants where you can get cous cous and veggies, that sort of thing. Chinese food - esp. by St. Michel - is a decent bet, too. Also, for a French meal (since that is where you are, after all), try Galettes. These are like crepes, but larger and not as sweet, and can be filled with anything. (p.s. " pomme de terre " is potato, not apple. an apple is une pomme - they're close. pomme de terre actually translates as " apple of the earth " , which I personally have alwasys enjoyed! ) Otherwise, if you eat eggs, almost anyone will be happy to make an omelette, even if it is not on the menu. And you can always have ratatouille. which i probably misspelled. Veggies in a sauce. vegan, too, i think. And, one last thing - there's a really great funky restaurant that's an all you can eat buffet that is in the 1ere arrondissement and is vegan and is sooooo good. It is very nice and clean and man, sometimes you just get HUNGRY as a vegetarian in paris so it might be worth looking it up in a restaurants in paris book before you go. look under vegetarian in the index to find it. there aren't many, lol, so it should be easy. i think this particular place is actually a vegan chain around europe - killer salad bar, soups, etc. hope some of this helps... oh, and btw, since this is my first post, i have really enjoyed reading from everyone. what a great supportive community! I am a mom of a 17 mo. boy who is veggie, but lacto-ovo, like his daddy and I are. we live in seattle, and i am surprised how few vegetarians we know! no vegetarian families with kids. would love to meet some in person, but the board definitely helps, esp. as my baby boy is turning into a picky, picky toddler.
