Guest guest
Isn't it the lesser of two evils? Kellogs owns Morningstar, Loma Linda, and Worthington. Boca is owned by Kraft. Then there's Annies and Gardenburger. Oooh...lest we forget Ives and Smart stuff.....I lose track. Isn't it all becoming rather incestuous? I mean, who owns Silk? Who owns Whole Soy? It's nuts. I vote for going with only organic soy products. I'm sure there's a flaw in my logic though........it's neverending!! Lucy
Guest guest
i've found it's really easy to make up large batches of veggie burgers from whatever i have in the house and freeze them... all of the premade versions in our grocery store have some dairy or egg, and none of them specify non GMO
Guest guest
I find it frustrating that if you are so interested in organics and health, why not take the time (it's worth it!) and make your own products from scratch'! I have two grown children in their twenties who were brought up on the real stuff, they are always healthy and have good eating habits. There's nothing like 'the real thing'! Guest guest
It is really tough to keep track of who owns who. Even those companies that we see as organic and wholesome are being gobbled up by big companies. Mother Jones ran an article on this very subject back in Jan 2003. Here's the link to the article. There is an entire chart of which vegetarian, organic or environmentally friendly companies are owned by who. You have to register to read the complete article but it is free to register. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2003/02/ma_209_01.html Lucy is correct, Morningstar farms is owned by Kellog. The makers of silk brand soy milk is White Wave which is owned by Dean Foods (Reiter, Bordon and other brands); they make dairy products. Silk also has a relationship with Starbucks coffee. In addition, Silk soy milk uses non gmo soy beans. In addition, it is interesting to listen to the debate about school lunches because the dairy industry would have you believe that they would lose money if soy milk were served in schools. In actuality, many of these same companies also own soy milk companies, case in point, Dean foods. Unfortunately, we live in a capitalist world that continues to allow big companies to swallow up little companies. In this case, the little companies with a good social message, such as organic, are compromising by selling thier companies to larger ones in order to be able to continue selling their product rather than completely going out of business. It is so sad. Peace to all. Joann --- Lucy Watkins <lucywatkins wrote: > Isn't it the lesser of two evils? Kellogs owns > Morningstar, Loma Linda, and Worthington. Boca is > owned by Kraft. Kellogs uses GMOs, as does Kraft. White Wave (the tofu company) owns Silk. WholeSoy is, AFAIK, its own entity. Gardenburger and (did you mean) Amy's are their own companies. Organic, but current FDA definition, cannot contain GMOs. Morningstar hot dogs are incredibly high in sodium (that's why they taste so good!). ~Doh -- Taking into account the public's regrettable lack of taste, it is incumbent upon you not to fit in. Guest guest
I agree - I was raised by a single mom who loved to cook but didn't have the time - but there were never chips or sweet snacks in the house - if you wanted french fries or cookies you made them - I ate a bunch of crap as a teenager but once I moved out it didn't seem natural to have that stuff in the house - I never thought to buy it in the grocery store - I'm trying to go a step further with my children -
Guest guest
why not take the time (it's worth it!) and make your own products from > scratch'! There's the key word right there - time. I would love to make more food from scratch and rely less on pre-made, highly proccessed food, but I (or my husband) dont always have the time. We do as much as we can, but sometimes you need a fall back. Rachael
