Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd post and say hello!

I think one of the most important things we can do up front is to work

together and put a charter together to describe this list. I would like to

see a *public* charter established that is readily available for all to see

and contribute too, and abide by. This charter will be a guideline and a

living document reflecting the values of this online community.

Personally - and this is just my own viewpoint as a member - I don't see

this list developing as a major animal rights list OR as a list where animal

rights topics are totally off topic. What I would like to see is a list

where people who are veg*n and animal rights oriented can have common

discussions and post things of interests to members of both. I am

originally vegan for ethical reasons. I was also very much an activist,

very much a proponent of a vegan diet for ethical reasons, supporting

leafletting of circuses and rodeos... In the course of over a decade of

vegan living, what started out as veganism for ethical reasons has evolved

to encompass environmental and health reasons as justification for

maintaining a vegan lifestyle. While I no longer do much activist work, I

am not averse to reading about AR activities that are happening. Maybe my

interest in different activities will change again! What is important to me

is being open.

I believe there is a lot of overlap between the different interests

promoting a vegan lifestyle. Everyone is welcome to join. We're not saying

this new list will be any better or any worse -- we're just saying it is

another list. We will each get out of this list what we put into it:

communication, creativity, compassion, and, I hope, community.

Thanks,

Tammy

" To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things

today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a

statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think

it's a strong one. " Isaac Bashevis Singer
