Guest guest
For those who missed it, according to today's Chron, Food section, the Berkeley City Council has adopted guidelines encouraging every municipal food program, from kids camps and senior centers to jails, to use organic, locally grown food. Irradiated and genetically modified foods are discouraged. The guidelines are motivated by concerns for health and social justice. However, the policy does not require organic or locally grown foods if they cost more than conventional alternatives. The policy could take as long as ten years to fully implement.
