" Veggie Yogurt "

I have been eating a " veggie yogurt " that I get at the grocery

store. It's made by the same company that makes veggie slices and

vegan slices and many other veggie foods (name might be Galaxy, but

I'm not sure). All of their products are labeled in green and

white. The yogurt is quite good tasting, but beware: not all flavors

are vegan, or even vegetarian!

Last night I bought the peach flavored yogurt. For some reason,

right as I was getting ready to eat it, I read the ingredients. Last

ingredient listed is carmine coloring. Carmine, also sometimes

listed as cochineal, is made from the ground up dead bodies of female

cochineal insects. Watch for this ingredient in other foods also;

you sometimes see it in pink colored fruit drinks.

Some people have severe allergic reactions to carmine. Obviously, I

don't, since I had eaten the peach flavor before. I guess I had just

read the ingredients on one of the flavors and assumed (bad idea)

that all of the flavors were vegan. Now I am grossed out about

eating insect powder!

Thanks, Tammy, for the posting about the Twinlab B-12 Dots. Sure enough,

that

is the brand in my cabinet. Below is the response from the company to my

e-mail message regarding getting a refund on the product.

Thank you for your inquiry. The most current label does list all ingredients

such as: Mannitol, Sorbitol, Croscarmellose Sodium, Cyanocobalamin,

Magnesium

Stearate, Silica, Cherry Flavor, Gelatin, Malic Acid and Purified Water.

Since the two predominant ingredients; cyano cobalamin and cherry flavoring

were listed, the ingredients that are in trace amounts were not listed on

the

label. We have never labeled this as a vegetarian product. We do understand

your complaint and have forwarded your concern to the appropriate

department.

We are happy to inform you that Twinlab has introduced a new and improved

vegetarian formula which contains; Cellulose, Sorbitol, Croscarmellose

Sodium, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Cherry Flavor, Cyanocobalamin and Malic

Acid. As we do not sell direct we are unable to offer you a refund. However,

as we do value as a consumer we will gladly replace the product for you with

the new vegetarian formula. Please send us the label ( proof of purchase) ,

your street mailing address and phone # to :Twinlab inc 150 Motor

Pkwy Hauppauge NY 11778 att Consumer AffairsOnce this information is

received

your replacement will be shipped via UPS within 3-4 weeks. Good health to

you!
