With his " McCruelty to Go " campaign, including " Unhappy " Meals showing

graphic cruelty to animals, Bruce Friedrich directed PETA's successful

efforts to force fast-food behemoth McDonald's to become the first

corporation in U.S. history to adopt animal welfare guidelines. " Murder

King " and " Wicked Wendy's " quickly followed suit in a streak of victories

for the animals. His controversial " Got Beer? " Campaign encouraging college

students to drink beer instead of milk made headlines across the country and

generated a record number of visits to PETA's DumpDairy.com Web site. His

campaign telling Christians that eating meat " mocks God " has made

JesusVeg.com one of the most popular vegetarian sites on the Web.

As senior campaign coordinator for People for the Ethical Treatment of

Animals (PETA), the largest animal rights organization in the world, Bruce

can be found speaking at schools, meeting with civic clubs, streaking at

Buckingham Palace, or dressed as a giant cow on Capitol Hill, encouraging

politicians to " Tax Meat. "

An avid reader of the opposition's trade journals, Bruce has debated meat,

fur, and animal research trade officials on countless television and radio

programs, including NBC's Today show, as well as on various programs on CNN,

the Fox News Network, MSNBC, and Court TV. His work in behalf of veganism

and animal rights has made headlines throughout the country, including

repeated stories in The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, New York

Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today.

Before coming to PETA in 1996, Bruce spent more than six years working in a

shelter for homeless families and the largest soup kitchen in Washington,

D.C. Bruce graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Grinnell College in Iowa with

majors in English and economics and a minor in religious studies. He

received the Gilbert Award for original research in the field of economics.

Bruce believes, as author and civil rights activist Alice Walker said, " The

animals of the world ... were not made for humans any more than black people

were made for whites, or women created for men. "

Details of Bruce's colorful campaigns designed to spread the word about how

badly animals are treated in the meat and dairy industries can be found at

GoVeg.com.

Bruce, 32, lives in Washington, D.C.
