Guest guest
Vegathon 2002 is coming up soon! As veg*ns, I encourage you to encourage your non-vegetarian friends, family and colleagues to participate. It's like a walkathon, but better for animals, people an the environment! Here's some information about Vegathon 2002: Try vegetarianism for a week (March 4 - 10) and benefit New York's American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)! Vegathon 2002 is a unique incentive for non-vegetarians to try a plant-based diet for a week. The seven-day Vegathon 2002 offers participants the opportunity to go meatless while getting sponsored to benefit the animals of the ASPCA. Similar to the format of a walkathon, participants get sponsored for every day they avoid meat, and the proceeds go directly to a cause - in this case the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). After receiving sponsorship packs, the first step of participants is to solicit sponsors for the week-long vegetarian diet. The intention of the Vegathon is to raise $14,000 for the ASPCA, but our main interest is raising awareness of the suffering of animals killed for food - and the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. Participants are not left to face vegetarianism alone during Vegathon 2002. Instead, they are provided with support - a vegetarian starter kit, local resources, web-based resources and a vegetarian coach to help them on their seven-day journey. The myth the vegetarians don't get enough protein, for example, is explained in the participant packs. Motivating research from Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine, delicious recipes, and the benefits of a plant-based diet are all a part of the participants' material. This international event culminates on Sunday, March 10, when participants are encouraged to meet with their vegetarian friends to celebrate their success - a week of living without meat. The Event: Vegathon 2002 Monday, March 4 through Sunday, March 10 For information or participant packs call 415-647-3336 or contact Vegathon http://www.startherecoaches.com/vegathon2002 Thanks on behalf of all animals! ~Caity McCardell Co-coordinator
