Guest guest
ATTENTION VEGY-MINDED PEOPLE IN THE SAN JOSE AND SURROUNDING AREA! Hello! My name is Philip Becker. You may have met me at the Veg Fair at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Saturday, 2/9/2002, when I was staffing an information table for the Vegetarian Resource Group. Aside from distributing vegy information, I was able to collect names of more than 75 people who are interested in starting a new vegy group in the San Jose and surrounding area. In case you missed the Veg Fair (which was fantastic!), I would like to invite you to take part in helping to create a new, exciting and dynamic vegetarian organization in the San Jose area! But I cannot do this alone...I need your help...as an organization only is as strong as its membership. Are you willing to take part in this new adventure? If so, then please attend the formation meeting on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2002, at 4:00 PM, at VEGETARIAN HOUSE Restaurant, 520 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose, California. {Restaurant phone number is (408)292-3798 or visit the restaurant website at http://godsdirectcontact.com/vh} ================================================================= Please RSVP NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, 2/15/2002 by 9:00 PM at either beckerhead or leave a message at (408)410-2186. ================================================================= YOUR RSVP WILL LET ME KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE ATTENDING SO THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THE RESTAURANT HOW MUCH FOOD TO PREPARE. Meals at the restaurant will be purely vegan in nature and will cost between $10-$15 per person. Since I will NOT be requiring advance payment, please DO show-up for the dinner if you indicate that you will be attending. Thank you! Here is a tentative schedule of events: 4:00-4:20 PM: Meeting and socializing with other attendees 4:20-4:30 PM: Brief introduction by Phil Becker on " Why another vegy group? " 4:30-4:50 PM: Breakout groups to develop the mission and focus of the group 4:50-5:10 PM: Discussion and decisions about the purpose and objectives of the group 5:10-5:20 PM: Solicitation of volunteers to coordinate the execution of the club objectives 5:20-5:30 PM: Selection of next meeting date, time, and location 5:30-7:00 PM: Time to eat a good vegy meal, folks! 7:00 PM-? : Optional meeting of members who want to be active and work as a steering committee for planning future events for the group SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE MEETING: What should the main purpose of the group be? Social? Educational? Political? Combination? Should the group have special sub-groups to meet the needs of the diverse population?(Ex: Senior citizens, singles, college students, teenagers) How often should the group meet? When? Where? How should the group operate--as a cooperative model or with elected representatives? Should there be a formal structure to the group--including Officers? Should the group be registered as a non-profit group in California? What should be the geographic boundaries of the group? I hope to see all of you on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2002, at 4:00 PM.
